Electronics Design in Mexico

As manufacturing leaves the developed world, along with its high labor rates, North American electronics engineers have to wonder whether engineering is not far behind. While Upper America has a considerable base in leading technology, many products do not depend on it, and can be designed by engineers in India, China, Malaysia, Russia, or Latin America. With most of the world's population in other places -- places that are developing at a high rate -- to what extent has engineering design caught on there? This article provides a personal account of electronics design activity in one of the more developed of the developing countries: Mexico.
